Bosnia-Herzegovina

NB! Please note, that I have found it very difficult to find out if all of these waters are in fact located in this republic - or in another of the ex-Yugoslavian republics.
Please correct me, if I'm mistaken - no offence is ment!
In Bosnia and Hercegovina angling permits are usually available from local clubs or at the waters, from the bailifs. Club adresses and phone numbers can be found here:  http://www.bistrobih.ba/Udruzenja.htm
Usually daytickets cost 10 KM - around 5-6 euro.

Please note, that in this country, carp are traditionally killed and eaten - no matter the size of the fish. This is slowly changing, and for 10 years or so, a growing number of anglers has addapted to modern catch & release principles like we know them.
This is an on-going process - so please accept the fact, that many local anglers still fish for food - and they have every right to do so, where no other local rules apply!
Visiting anglers are urged not to judge over this - but instead simply advocate our views of fish care in a calm and understanding manner

Boracko Jerzero
This lake of 1440 ha. is one of the most beautifull in ex-Yugoslavia, and several carp in the 20-30 kg range have been reported from here. The latest a magnifgicent fish of 32,3 kg, that unfortunately was killed for food, which is still rather commen in this country. Permits available at the lake, where a camping and a motel is also found to cater for the family, if needed. >Alen Sehovic, march 2007<

Not a pretty sight to see big carp killed like these - but still a rather commen practice here. Dramatic scenery at Boracko lake - as can be expected in mountainous areas. / Alen Sehovic. Fantastic surroundings at Boracko lake! / Alen Sehovic. View of Busko lake. / Alen Sehovic

Jablanicko Jerzero, Konjic, Mostar
This 13 ha lake is welle stocked with carp. An anglers hut is established at the lake, where you can get the permits and informations on the fishing at the time being.>Alen Sehovic, march 2007<

Modrac lake, Tuzla canton, Lukavac
This
is at 17 km2 the biggest artificial lake in the region, and is primarily used as water supply for industrial purposes. It is said to hold very big fish too - and at least one carp of 40 kg+ is alledged to have been caught from here.
Yes, you read it correctly - the fish pictured here was caught in a net and is told to weigh in at 41,3 kg! Attempts to release the big fish alive unfortunately did not succeed.
Catfish have been caught to 3 meters in length and weighing 170 kg! Talk about record potential!

It's apparently also a rather polluted lake, recieving effluent from big mining companies in the area.
A very competent team of well known french anglers visited the water in 2004 - but caught absolutely nothing .....

Latest known biggie from Modrac - 26,8 kg, caught in march 2006. Photos: Alen Sehovic.

Local anglers primarily use pastes and big particles, and frequently catch carp in the 10-20 kg range.
The lake has become quite popular with german and dutch anglers these last few years.
Easy access with the car i most places.

Ramsko Jerzero, Jablanica, Prozor
Many small islands are known hot-spots in this idyllic 1500 ha. lake, holding good carp. >Alen Sehovic, march 2007<

Ramsko lake - one of the islands.

Salakovac Jerzero, Mostar
It might be quite hard to find a spot to peg a bivvy at this 314 ha big carp water. Many fish from a boat - towards the opposite bank. Reputedly best during summer months due to cold water flowing through the lake - and also flowing through Jablanico lake.
